I thought so. well, now here's your chance to help those whatnots and read some stuff and look at pretty pictures.

Mr. Lally, the mad wizard behind Alligator Stew Issue 1 is back with another Stew, this one a post card set. and it's for charity!

Lally has exiled himself to the Island of Gozo and has taken it upon himself to save the animals! all of them!

kidding aside, all the proceeds from the sale of the issue will go to the Gozo SPCA. it's a great cause and one I'm more than happy to support, as our house has one dog, two cats, two gerbils and occasionally a goldfish. we like the critters.

all of the poetry and artwork is animal related. I have a poem and two drawings in this post card set. and there are many other great poets involved. here's a sneak peek at the great looking box that houses the set:

the late season

here we go. it's called the late season, and it was published in The Gaspereau Review - Very Late Summer 2001, #16. that was actually the last issue of the review, but Gaspereau Press is still thriving.

so, Jenifer Wills decided she had plenty of free time between writing chapbooks, going to university, being a mom to 4(?)kids and running a fully interactive writing forum to create a massive project: male pale and old : 16 outstanding men of the small press.

lady be crazy.

anyway, somehow I did the whole smoke and mirrors thing and got my pitiful writing ass involved. but, like always, I'm not the reason you should check this out. Jen spent tons of time getting this thing put together with, from what I can tell, quite a bit of help from our old friend Father Luke. there are plenty of names you'll recognize, some you may not, but I'm sure you'll be digging the interwebs to find more examples of their fine work.

I won't mention names here, because I want you to click this link to find out for yourself.

and I would be remiss (ha! I said remiss!) if I didn't mention that this was part 2 of Jen's project, part one being Don't Call Me Plath : 12 Outstanding Women of the Small Press.

MILK update

you know how sometimes something pretty cool happens to you and you're excited about it but life has a way of getting in the way and confusing you and you neglect that pretty cool thing that happened to you?

well, that exact thing happened to me!

I completely forgot to tell all you nice people (and even the not so nice ones) that my larding collaboration with Jordan Hurder is now for sale. it's called Tirez a la ligne, Celine, remember?

chance press has done a deluxe and regular edition of the project, and I must say they look great. I don't care which edition you buy (you are buying one, right?), but the deluxe version is one of my favourite things that chance press has put out. although the Carol Es book they are doing might change my opinion...

MILK is coming!!!!

MILK #1 is on its way this July. I'm pleased to say I have 3 poems in it.

I get excited every time a magazine takes my work, no matter how big or small the publication is, but MILK feels different to me. I'm feeling a MILK groundswell or something. maybe it's the great lineup that Josh has pulled together, or maybe I'm swayed by the pretty website and cover that Chris has designed, I dunno. whatever the reason, I'm mighty proud to be a part of MILK's first issue and hope to be in it again someday.

I almost forgot, Bill Roberts from Bottle of Smoke Press is letterpressing the cover. so that's pretty cool, right?

no need to look concerned, it's good news.

there's a new project rumbling its way toward us. no, that's not thunder you hear, it's Bill Roberts on a Red Bull binge cranking his press to the limit, pumping that HP3600n like Secretariat on the home stretch.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you who Bill Roberts is. that's right, he's the small press warrior, publishing people like this. yep, people like Bukowski, Ferlinghetti and Brautigan.

and now, you can add to the list.......ME!

fucking hell! stop laughing! he really is publishing me! no, I'm not sure why. a moment of weakness on his part, I'm sure. but he hasn't backed out yet.

but here's the best part: I'm sworn to secrecy! Bill has great plans for this project and the design is something special so I can't spill the beans. all I can tell you is, um, well, maybe I'll let Bill tell you.

Please just don’t tell them what it will look like. Maybe mention that it will be 5 single story books by five writers with 5 unique and unusual covers, all hardbacks bound in 1/4 cloth over boards, contained in a custom clamshell that is also unique. All copies are signed by the authors and all copies include original artwork or handwritten poems by the authors.

Larding by Chance Press

so, a few weeks ago, Jordan Hurder from Chance Press asked if I could help out with a new project he and Justine are working on called Tirez a la ligne, Celine, an experiment in larding. Jordan had to explain it to me. it's a process of taking two lines of existing text (in this case from Louis Ferdinand Celine), and having 2 writers take turns adding lines between each other in the expanding text.

Jordan explains it much better than I can.

anyway, Jordan and I tried our hand at a couple, and our writing really fit well together and the whole process was fresh and quite exciting. luckily Jordan and Justine agree.

so, I'm very pleased to say Chance Press will be publishing me again. well, I'm more than pleased but I'm trying to maintain some decorum and not ruin my street cred. because as you all well know, I'm all about street cred.

there's a new poetry mag coming out this summer, MILK, and they're looking for submissions.

if the website is any indication, this is a magazine worth sending something to. so if there are any writers reading this, drop MILK a few of your poems.

and send your good ones! not the shitty ones you wrote for your girlfriend/boyfriend when you were trying to get laid. that shit won't fly.

and yes, I do know the publisher and editor. at least through the internet. but I never wrote them poems to get them to sleep with me. yet.

you know what that means? that's right, you'll have to pay big bucks on ebay to get one now. suckers.

my friend across the pond, Mr. Lally, took it upon himself to solicit submissions, print and send out a small press lit mag in the span of a month.

well he did it. and no, it doesn't look like a pile of toilet paper held together with glitter glue. it looks good. real good, in fact.

look at the picture up there! there's someone with sensitive poet hands giving it a thumbs up! I mean, he can't be wrong, can he?

anyway, am I schilling this out of the goodness of my heart? no, of course not. I'm in it! 2 poems and a large drawing. and while my work is enough reason for you to buy this (stop snickering, please. and spit out that gum), it also features some other fine poets: Harry Calhoun, Dave Donovan, Father Luke, Jenifer Wills, justin.barrett, David Barker and others. even Mr. Lally makes an appearance or 2. vain bugger.

well, the trade edition of my chapbook, the confusion will be enough for them to leave you alone, is now on sale.

the deluxe edition won't be available until late September (?).

so here's what I think you should do: buy the trade edition now, read it, and then decide you can't live without the deluxe edition. because, trust me, you can't live without the deluxe edition. Justine and Jordan at Chance Press are pulling out all the stops on this baby.

why no new poems?

just wanted to leave a quick note as to why there haven't been new posts recently....

the poems I've been writing lately are for the chapbook coming in the fall (not summer as previously planned, but that gives me and j&j at chance press time to make it extra awesome!) and I want the poems to be fresh. oven fresh, not warmed up in the microwave. the microwave would just make them tough and chewy, and nobody wants that.

however, there are a couple of things I've written that I don't plan for the chapbook, so look for those in the next few days. all 2 of you reading this.

the nice people at chance press are going to publish my first chapbook. it's due out (tentatively) in the Spring or Summer of 2009.

although the final design hasn't been decided on yet, the ideas the publishers have for the format guarantee it won't be your run of the mill poetry chapbook. so, even if you don't like my poems or artwork, the book itself will be something you'll want to have in your very own home!

so, if you really, really can't wait for it to be published and want to ensure you get a copy in your greedy little hands, drop the fine folks a line at: chance.press.books @gmail.com.
